Reflexology

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is the application of pressure to the feet to effect corresponding parts of the body. The theory behind this treatment is that the feet are a mirror image of the body. This means that when pressure is applied to specific areas of the feet a signal is sent to the nervous system. The nervous system then sends a signal to the organ asking it to reset back to a natural state of balance.

This leaves you feeling less stressed and more balanced. The overall goal of reflexology is to return the body to a natural state of balance or nirvana.

What does a treatment involve?

Foot Bath
When you come in for a reflexology treatment at A happy haven three major things will happen. You will be asked to sit, remove your socks and shoes and receive a foot bath. This cleanses the feet, removing sock fuzz and setting everyone's mind at ease about any lingering smells from feet being in shoes during the day.
Paraffin Dip
After your feet are clean you will be treated to a paraffin dip for each foot. Paraffin is a kind of warm wax that has been found to be highly moisturizing and soothing for aching hands and feet. The heat of the paraffin builds and seeps deep into the muscles for extended relief without risk of burning. Paraffin has been found to help with arthritis and other chronic muscle and joint pain. It also helps break down calluses and leaves nails shiny. Please feel free to try it on hands or feet anytime!
Reflexology
The reflexology treatment is a full hour on the feet. The reflexologist will have you lay down fully clothed on the massage table with pillows under your feet. A blanket will be available to help you keep warm. Then she will work through all the systems of the body on your feet using a gentle but firm pressure. Those with ticklish feet need not worry. This treatment will leave you feeling deeply relaxed and stress free.

How is Reflexology different from Massage?

Reflexology works to heal the body from the inside out by returning balance to the organs of the body through the nervous system. Massage works on the body from the outside in by soothing muscles through touch directly applied to them.
