Intro to Massage

Okay, you've heard your friends talk about it. You're exploring the website. But what happens when you actually book an appointment?

A happy haven offers professional massage therapy. What that means is that the atmosphere will be clean and safe. You can get massage to reduce stress, alleviate muscular pain or discomfort, or to just relax and take some time for you. There is also no sexual conduct involved

When you first call A happy haven you will talk to Joy, the owner. She will work with you to find an appointment that fits into your schedule. If it is your first time she will probably ask you come 10 minutes before your appointment time so that you can fill out a health form.

The health form gives you an opportunity to tell Joy why you have come to A happy haven, and if you have any medical conditions that she should know about, i.e.: heart condition, diabetes, or something that may be triggered during you session. This allows you both to make a plan if something did happen. The form also asks for your address and contact information. This allows Joy to make reminder calls and mail you notification of specials or coupons. All information on the health form is kept strictly confidential and Joy will ask you before it is shared with anyone.

After you have filled out your health form Joy will sit down and talk with you about why you have come. Whether it is stress reduction or muscle pain, Joy will design a massage to fit your needs for the day. This is also a great time for you to ask any questions that you may have.

Once your needs have been determined, Joy will escort you into the massage room and give you a brief description of what the massage will entail, and which items of clothing need to be removed.

Don't be alarmed. The reason you are being asked to remove your clothes is so that your therapist can use oil or lotion to give you the best massage possible. Any area that isn't being worked on is covered at all times, unless requested otherwise. Breasts, on women, and genitalia on both men and women are covered at all times.

You may be wondering about your rear end at this moment. Gluts, other wise known as your buttocks, do get worked on on a regular basis. The reason for this is that these are big muscles that have great responsibility in helping you move. They get tight and sore just like the rest of your body. But please remember, if you are uncomfortable, you can skip that area.

Before you get undressed and climb under the covers, Joy will leave you to go wash up. She will always knock and ask if you are ready before she comes back in.

Okay, so you're lying in the candlelight under the covers and Joy has just come back into the room. Before starting, Joy will make any adjustments needed for your comfort, such as adjusting the bolster (the bump under the covers used to support your lower back) or changing the music to suit your tastes. Then she will ask you if you want an essential oil, if you haven't talked about it before. Oils have a number of benefits besides just making you smell nice. Check out the Essential Oils section for more details.

You do have a few things to keep in mind while you're getting your massage. First, relax. You are in control of the amount of pressure given. Second, being in charge of pressure adjustments means you have to tell Joy if you need more or less at any given time during the massage. Third, breathe deeply. Often when people are nervous, their breath becomes shallow and it is harder to relax. Taking long deep breaths during your massage helps to release tight muscles and aids in your relaxation.

After your massage is done, Joy will leave you to get dressed. You will want to be careful getting up because you might get a little lightheaded. Don't worry. This is fairly normal and you will be fine if you take a moment and collect yourself. After you have dressed and come into the main room, Joy will have some water for you to drink. Drinking water after a massage is very important. Massage helps flush excess toxins from your body, and if you don't drink water afterward those toxins have no place to go. This can cause you to feel achy, sore, or give you a bit of a bellyache. Don't worry about it too much. Just drink lots of water after your massage and you'll be fine.

Payment is collected after your massage. Joy is currently only taking cash and check so please have one of these two options available.
